Low syn, Slimming World friendly salt and pepper chips fake away recipe

OMG, I shit you not, these low syn salt and pepper chips were an incredible fake away.

After successfully navigating my way to Slimmer of the Week, a lovely lady who attends my group had placed some Chinese 5 spice seasoning in the winners basket.

It’s something I always forget to pick up for one reason or another, but when I saw it cheekily pop its head out above the fruit and other goodies I knew what was on the menu for tea!

To say PK is obsessed with salt and pepper chips is a heeeeeouge understatement, and annoying as I am on a daily basis (apparently), these earned me some major partner points to bank for any future hissy fits.

They are very Slimming World friendly as they can be low syn, or syn free, depending on how you cook the chips – making them the perfect fake away recipe.

You’ll never buy salt and pepper chips from the Chinese take away ever again, and better still, they’re ridiculously easy to make!

How to make low syn, Slimming World friendly salt and pepper chips fake away

Ingredients

  • 900g (ish) of potatoes
  • 2 peppers finely chopped
  • 1 onion finely chopped
  • Chilli flakes (or fresh chillies if you prefer)
  • Chinese 5 spice seasoning
  • Fry Light if using the oven

Method for syn free salt and pepper chips

  • Peel spuds and chip.
  • Bring a large saucepan of salted water to the boil, add the chips and cook for 4 minutes.
  • Put to one side for roughly 10 minutes to allow them to dry, then give them a good shake in a dry saucepan to rough them up a bit, it’ll give them a nice texture.
  • Spray a baking tray with olive oil Fry Light, place the chips on the tray, cover the chips with Fry Light and sprinkle with Chinese 5 spice seasoning.
  • Bake for around 30 minutes, turning occasionally until golden brown
  • Whilst the chips are cooking fry the peppers, onion and chilli flakes using Fry Light, add some more Chinese 5 spice seasoning.
  • When the chips are cooked, mix them with the peppers, onion and chilli ( I also add another sprinkle of Chinese 5 spice but that’s up to you)

Method for low syn salt and pepper chips

  • Whilst the chips are cooking fry the peppers, onion and chilli flakes using Fry Light, add some more Chinese 5 spice seasoning.
  • When the chips are cooked, mix them with the peppers, onion and chilli ( I also add another sprinkle of Chinese 5 spice but that’s up to you)

Final word

When you need a really tasty fake away that allows you to bank your syns to spend them elsewhere, this is literally the perfect recipe.

I have to admit, I prefer my chips deep fried, and for for 5 syns per 100g I personally think it’s a bargain.

However, the completely free version is mega tasty too.
