5 Thrifty Things I’ve Done This Week #2: Coffee, Yellow Ticket Ninja Skills & Firing PK

This week my 5 Thrifty Things has been more about cutting down costs than freebies!

Welcome to the second edition of my 5 Thrifty Things, this week I have been looking at ways to cut down everyday costs after last week’s spectacular freebie haul.

It has been a week of horrifying revelations and generally trying to live off buttons all week.

Here are my 5 Thrifty Things this week!

Costa pods

I finally started to tackle one of my biggest vices, the morning cappuccinos!

I’m not going to lie and say I haven’t been into Costa this week, I have, but only twice, which is a massive improvement.

I picked up some pods to cut my coffee outgoings right down – no more being a coffee mug!

Yellow Ticket Ninja haul

I have worked my way through the freezer all week, creating some really tasty meals with it never costing me more than £1 per head.

And, as per usual, the good folks of South Manchester didn’t let me down this week and I managed to grab a shed load more, all averaging 75% off – winner winner chicken dinner!

PK relieved of washing duties

Since we moved to our new apartment in November, for the first time in our 11 year relationship we decided to have our own designated jobs.

PK was put on clothes washing duty as it is the one the gets on my moobs the most.

Imagine my horror when I discovered him using Ariel liquid tabs, Ariel washing gel AND Lenor in the same wash.

Three products to do exactly the same thing, and this ladies and gents is what I’m dealing with – PK, you’re fired!

Carpets

I wanted our carpets cleaned and didn’t fancy doing it myself with a bad back.

But that wasn’t thinking thrifty, so I braved the pain, borrowed my father-in-law’s carpet cleaner and did it myself – Vaxtastic

Sidney the Sony

Sidney may keep freezing, switching himself off and generally being a pain in the arse, but he’s not dead yet and I’m still holding out on replacing him.

I estimate he has at least another month left in him, and I like my cheap as chips sim only deal – don’t go breaking my heart Sidney

Final word

This week has been all about cutting down costs as much as possible.

Holding out on a new phone and cleaning the carpets myself undoubtedly saved me the most money this week, although my back isn’t thanking me for the latter now!

The 5 Frugal Things linky is definitely helping to focus my attention on things that needed tackling.

I’m linking up with this Cass, Emma and Becky in this week’s ‘Five Fabulously Frugal things I’ve done this week’ linky, so please go and check these guys out too, you will find some amazing ideas to cut down your household costs!

What thrifty things have you done this week?

  1. Loving the washing story!! Ill have you know Aldi washing capsule things are fab, and super cheap. They even seem to remove football mud!!

    1. He’s such a brand snob when it comes to washing. Don’t get me wrong, our clothes smelled amazing, but then again they should, do using a skips worth of detergent! Haha

  2. I always wonder with some people if they’re doing as bad a job as possible so they have it taken away from them… like my lad doing the washing up. After paying for the hot water, listening to the sighs and having to do it all over again, he’s wearing me down 🙂
Well done with chipping away at the outgoings and taking the frugal options!

    1. Thanks Lee, he just has no domestic commonsense! He once bought 3 750g packs of lamb mince to make sure he had enough to make lamb koftas for TWO people!

  3. Gosh, I would fire mine too, hee! YAY to pods. I bought a coffee machine on sale and now we drink pod coffee and that’s definitely a winner in being thrifty! Thanks for sharing with #bigpinklink
