How I Became A Yellow Ticket Ninja

How I Became A Yellow Ticket Ninja

Spending like a pauper, eating like a king, this is the true story of an apprentice Yellow Ticket Ninja!

My journey towards being a fully qualified Yellow Ticket Ninja began hopping on one leg.

I had just been stung by a wasp on the London Underground when a lovely Welsh lady stopped to ask  me for directions.

Turned out we were both on our way to the same awards presentation and to cut a long story short, we both won!

Anyway, after a day bonding with Kelly I started having a snoop through her blog – Reduced Grub, where she cooks proper posh nosh for pennies.

It got me thinking about how much I was spending on food.

Dawn of the apprentice Yellow Ticket Ninja

I was a pretty thrifty shopper anyway, but Master Kelly had stirred a whole new kind of thrift inside me.

I grabbed knocked down food where I could, but living so far away from all the local supermarkets limited my training and opportunities to swoop.

Then, something incredible happened.

I moved to a new apartment, and not only did we find somewhere at least £150 a month under priced, it was also within 200 yards of a Sainsburys Local and a Co-Op – the hunting ground of our sacred clan.

Education and training of the apprentice Yellow Ticket Ninja

Now began the serious matter of discovering the best time to go in for the kill.

After much surveillance I managed to determine 8:03pm was peak time, the last run of reductions.

Darting from one aisle to another like a shadow in the night, many bargains I found.

With an insatiable thirst for bargains came the need to master many new recipes, horizons were broadened and the same meal never prepared twice.

Binge watching thirty three seasons of Master Chef had paid off handsomely.

Regardless of ingredients on offer, I could make something tasty and Slimming World friendly out of it.

My understanding for the ancient discipline was strong.

Rise of the Yellow Ticket Ninja

The training wheels are off.

Master Kelly has trained me well and the time has come for me to pass on the knowledge and wisdom I have gained.

Keep your eyes peeled for the new thrifty food category coming soon.

**Bows respectfully to Master Kelly**

    1. I go in and play Ready, Steady, Cook! I know what ingredients I like, and I’m open to trying new ones, so I see it as a challenge to make something nice. My freezer is well stocked haha!

  1. Love this! I want to become a yellow ticket ninja too! I shall start putting these tips in place immediately! I love the idea of playing ready steady cook too – buy the ingredients then try and figure out what on earth to do with them! Sounds like my regular cooking anyway! 😉

    1. I eat like a King and spend naff all it’s great. And yeah, playing read, steady cook every day is a challenge I like. Thank goodness I asked for so many new kitchen appliances at Christmas!
