Why I Joined The Yakezie Challenge

So why have I joined the Yakezie Challenge? First and foremost I’m a competitive little fecker! The moment I was added to the Modest Money Top Personal Finance Blogs list at number 411 I was obsessed with the idea of climbing that ladder and making it to the top 300 to begin with, then top 200, top 100 and so on.

I very proudly sit at 324 in the current ranking so I am well on the way to hitting my second goal which is great.

Next goal

Around three weeks ago I also came across the Yakezie Challenge through one of my favourite personal finance bloggers Finance Superhero. We started on this blogging journey roughly at the same time so after taking his advice I have finally took the plunge.

What is the Yakezie Challenge?

It’s really simple, it’s all about selflessly helping each other and this is how it works!

  1. Install the Alexa toolbar and monitor your starting Alexa ranking.
  2. Post consistently 2-4 times per week on your own site and consider guest posting around the community.
  3. Install the Yakezie Challenger Badge.
  4. Announce on your blog that you have joined the Yakezie Challenge (hence, this post!).
  5. Selflessly promote others and build relationships.
  6. Remain committed to these ideals for 6 months.
  7. In my case, strive to break the 200,000 global ranking barrier in Alexa (my target is 30th December 2016)

Current rankings

My first challenge was to add the Yakezie Challenger Badge and Alexa ranking badge to my site which is now in place. I was already signed up to Alexa and my current rankings are as follows:

Global Ranking 2,058,063

UK Ranking 56,010

US Ranking 1,002,236

Now, considering that Global Ranking was 19,994,173 when I first registered for Alexa I have to say I’m pretty happy with that so far. I didn’t even have a US ranking at first, so it’s nice to know I’ve made a small impression with our American cousins over the pond!

The goal now is to really give this blog a push and grow my audience even further with the aid of the Yakezie Challenge.

I want to improve my Global Alexa Ranking to 200,000, so just a mere 1,858,063 places to go, but I know it’s possible. It’s possible because of the help and support from the personal finance blogging community.

If you’re a personal finance blogger and have yet to sign up, give it a go!

  1. All the best with your goal!
I’ve thought about joining the Yakezie Challenge for a while now with a personal finance site I have though I keep procrastinating!

    1. Sorry for the late reply I’ve been having a week off! Yes, it’s aimed at selflessly helping your peers to increase ranking and traffic.
