If I had a quid for every time I’ve quit smoking I’d be living the dream in a luxury condo within spitting distance of a beach in the Caribbean.
In fact, if I had saved every penny I’ve ever spent on smoking over the last 18 years I could be well on the way to that seafront gaff.
I’ll cut to the chase.
I am currently embarking on my two hundred and fifty millionth attempt to quit smoking.
You may think that number is an over exaggeration, however I assure you my nearest and dearest would back me up wholeheartedly, a dagger tightly grasped hidden behind their back awaiting the absolute shit storm that this latest attempt could bring.
In short, I’m an absolute whopper every time I do this.
A demonic horror bag of epic proportions and I’ve lost count of the amount of apologies I’ve had to dish out over the years purely from the withdrawal symptoms of that addictive little cretin.
My fault, nobody else’s.
After all, my mum insisted with great gusto I shouldn’t do it – EVER!
Naturally, as a teenage David I just assumed she was trying to ruin my life and proceeded to do my level best at cracking the whole smoking thing without coughing myself to death, getting as addicted to them as humanly possible.
I mean, what the fudge does your mum know about anything?
A massive change in circumstances
When redundancy came along, just as I’d watched my mum do as a child when times got hard, many times over the years, I looked for ways to cut back.
If I’m ever going to be 100% Thinking Thrifty then the cancer sticks have to go, not for 6 months of the year, but for good.
I’ve spent so much money attempting to quit smoking using various vapes, e-cigs and the like and got precisely nowhere over the years due to a combination of poor product, and admittedly, willpower.
This time I challenged The Vapers Warehouse to recommend something for me and they gifted me a SMOK® Brit One Mini Kit and some vape liquids from Black Note in return for an honest review in the hope of proving me wrong.
Yaaaaaaaaaay or Naaaaaaaaaay
So far so good…
It wasn’t slim, cigarette shaped and coloured whilst lacking the ability to work it’s piss poor way past one puff once I got home.
(Please insert your own smutty joke here)
I didn’t feel like I was carrying heavy artillery around in my pocket forcing me into a gangster limp that doesn’t befit a 35 year old man, and it does actually create the vape steam as intended, a rarity in my experience, which has the lovely benefit of preventing you from swallowing a tube of the vape liquid every other drag.
Thus far I haven’t even had to explain that is has leaked, that I’m not suffering with incontinence related issues and I honestly haven’t pissed myself.
No, it is actually quite impressive – HURRAH!
A huge bonus so far from my experience with the vape industry.
The battery could last longer, but then I haven’t recorded the amount of time I’ve spent using it, so maybe I’m still in the early stages of quitting where you would sooner walk repeatedly into a wall than feel that level of cravings.
I’ve still not managed to crack the whole no smoking thing if alcohol is involved to be completely honest, although I’ve managed to abstain the next day, regardless of if there are cigarettes left or not, so a small win there with work still to do.
The vape liquids they sent me were from Blacknote, The Notebook Third Edition and were presented in a snazzy little display box.
They looked fairly high end – ideal for a present if you know someone who vapes.
Would I recommend it?
All-in-all five weeks down the line and I still have nothing to complain about!
Yes I’m still having a few cigarettes if I’m enjoying some alcoholic beverages, but any other time it hasn’t bothered me, I’ve managed to maintain all current friendships and nobody has died – WINNER!
At an average price of around £23.70 it’s cost effective to see if it’s for you without having to fork out £50 – £60 on something you may never use.
I eventually will look to moving away from tobacco flavoured vape liquid going forward, it’s just going to be a constant reminder I don’t need in the long run in my opinion.
There is also an array of different flavours on their website to choose from if you prefer something other than tobacco.
Now, something serious I feel compelled to say…
DO NOT start using one of these if you have never smoked before!
Getting yourself addicted to Nicotine isn’t big or clever, once that chemical imbalance is changed in your brain, you’re going to crave it for the rest of your life.
Take it from someone who quit smoking for over 18 months and still went back to it!
