If the school holidays fill you with dread leaving you with sleepless nights about keeping the children occupied without it costing you an absolute fortune then this is perfect for you. So let me introduce you to your new best friend… The I’m Bored Jar!
How does a bored jar work?
It does exactly what it says on the tin, or the jar in this case. (Sorry!) First of all find an empty jar, get the kids to decorate it if you like, but a plain jar works perfectly fine, it’s what is inside that counts.
Now make a list of all the things the children could possible do in a school holiday that suits your budget. If you are stuck for ideas I have made you a free printable list, or if your prefer you can simply download it. There over 150 things to do!
Fill the jar with all the activities you have decided on and wait for those famous words, “Mum, Dad, I’M BORED!” You are now armed with your very own boredom deflector. Just grab the I’m Bored Jar and and get them to choose an activity for them to do.
Unfortunately the UK weather is not known for it’s scorching temperatures and lack of rain so not all activities chosen on certain days will be possible. If this is the case then agree that the moment the weather improves that the choice is first on the list for the next activity. Effectively you’re one moan ahead! You could even make a bored calendar to place them so it is clear for the children to see when they are due to complete the activity.
Don’t forget, the I’m Bored Jar can be used anytime not just for school holidays. You can add your own ideas in there to suit the needs of your own child / children. If you have any you’d like to share please leave them in the comments section.
